GCStatistic 1.9.8b8 - Generate geocaching statistics.. (Free):

GCStatistic is an application to generate statistics in the form of html output for uploading either to geocaching.com or as a standalone html file on your webspace.

What do I need for GCStatistic? In order to use this application you need a membership at geocaching.com and a gpx file with your finds generated there.

GCStatistic is an easy to use geocaching statistic tool. You can choose between the generation af a standalone html file or an automated upload to your geocaching.com profile. Simply select the gpx file with your finds from geocaching.com and select the statistic section you would like to see in the output. Just some available findstatistics are:

  • Finds by year/month and weekday
  • Finds by distance and countrys
  • Finds by cache size, type, owner or difficulty
GCStatistic is donationware so you can use it for free without limitations as long as you like. But it would be nice if you donate a little bit if you like this application (Even $1 would be really nice and please not more than $10 as this is just a small tool).

Version 1.9.8b8:

Changes

  • When the badges can now be selected between the known and a representation with larger badges. The larger badges are displayed row, should this become necessary.
  • At the annual statistics are now issued for the years before the first year of discovery no more. Now you can see better, whether it is in the empty bar at the top for years to 0 years before the findings or to own geocaching career
Fixes
  • A typographical error in the output corrected.
  • The GPX routine now detects all date formats, and if a new GPX file always recognize it. But it is still normal for the download test min. 2-3x counts down to zero. The server requires a certain amount of time taken to generate the GPX file.

Saturn 2.0 - Images and graphics of Saturn and its ecosystem.. (Commercial)

Saturn 2.0 - Images and graphics of Saturn and its ecosystem.. (Commercial):

Saturn is an astronomy app that has over 500 images and graphics of the planet Saturn, its extensive ring system, and 7 major moons: Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Dione, Rhea, Titan, and Iapetus. There is extensive and detailed coverage of each of these worlds including over 100 topics. Cutting edge astronomy and beautiful images returned by the Cassini probe are augmented by a futuristic GUI.

You can learn about the Saturnian magnetosphere and how it interacts with Saturn's moons, the amazing hexagonal storm system that encircles the north pole of Saturn, and the huge south polar cyclonic vortex. View the progression of a huge storm system that erupted in the northern latitudes of Saturn in late 2010 that still rages and completely encircles the planet in a 10000 kilometer band.

Saturnian weather is intense, with howling storms and extreme winds that churn the atmosphere and vary with the seasons.

Explore the icy plumes of Enceladus emanating from the Tiger Stripe sulci, the wracked and cratered landscapes of the cold ice moons, and the most beautiful, complex and expansive ring system in the solar system. Mimas and Iapetus each have a surface with a crater resembling the appearance of the Death Star. Check out "The Wall" on Iapetus; a mysterious complex ridge system that's hundreds of kilometers long and straddles the equator at towering elevations up to 11 kilometers tall.

Plus a lot more.

Master Math Word Problems 1.9k - Pedagogical math resource for students.. (Shareware)

Master Math Word Problems 1.9k - Pedagogical math resource for students.. (Shareware):

Master Math Word Problems is an easy-to-use program to aid students in learning to identify key words that identify mathematical operations and work through mathematical word problems. Word problems are considered important because they take math into the real world. Unfortunately solving word problems is one of the areas where students have the most difficulties in elementary math. Master Math Word Problems helps students develop word problem skills through practice. It features optional on screen tips and three practice modes. Results of each round as well as missed questions may be printed with student name and time/date stamp. Randomization of components within a word problem framework allows for extended practice without students seeing identical problems repeatedly.

SAGE 4.8 - Open-source advanced mathematics software.. (Free)

SAGE 4.8 - Open-source advanced mathematics software.. (Free):

SAGE is open source mathematics software which creates a viable free open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and Matlab.

General and Advanced Pure and Applied Mathematics
Use SAGE for studying a huge range of mathematics, including algebra, calculus, elementary to very advanced number theory, cryptography, numerical computation, commutative algebra, group theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and exact linear algebra.

Use an Open Source Alternative
By using SAGE you help to support a viable open source alternative to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, and MATLAB. SAGE includes many high-quality open source math packages.

Use Most Mathematics Software from Within SAGE
SAGE makes it easy for you to use most mathematics software together. SAGE includes interfaces to Magma, Maple, Mathematica, MATLAB, and MuPAD, and the free programs Axiom, GAP, GP/PARI, Macaulay2, Maxima, Octave, and Singular.

Use a Standard Programming Language
You work with SAGE using the highly regarded scripting language Python instead of an obscure language designed for a particular mathematics program. You can write programs that combine serious mathematics with anything else.

Soulver 2.2.2 - Smart notepad with built-In calculator.. (Shareware):

Soulver helps you do quick calculations and work things out. It's quicker to use than a spreadsheet, and smarter and clearer than a traditional calculator.

You type out your problems as you would on paper, and Soulver calculates your answer as you type. You can do calculations over multiple lines, and use words alongside your numbers so they make sense.

Soulver is great for adding things up, easily doing percentages, and converting things, like currencies.

  • See all your calculations all the time, and go back and change any of them.
  • Use words amid your calculations so your numbers make sense
  • Easily do percentages ("$100 - 10%", "30 as a % of 200")
  • See a running total of all your lines
  • Do easy conversions ("10 USD in Euros, "25 meters in feet")

Mathomatic 15.7.3 - Portable, general-purpose CAS.. (Free)

Mathomatic 15.7.3 - Portable, general-purpose CAS.. (Free):

Mathomatic is a free, portable, general-purpose Computer Algebra System (CAS) that can automatically solve, differentiate, simplify, combine, and compare algebraic equations, perform standard, complex number, modular, and polynomial arithmetic, etc. It does some calculus and is very easy to learn and use. Plotting expressions with gnuplot is also supported (requires gnuplot).

Version 15.7.3:
  • Further improved parse_complex(), so simplify works better and the divide command no longer approximates, giving more accurate symbolic answers.
  • Combining powers and different denominators that contain absolute values like ((x^2)^.5) is now prevented. This allows correct simplification and solving when dealing with absolute values. Tested with the Batman equations, which, when plotted display the Batman logo ("tests/batman_plot").
  • Moved place where 1/i is converted to -i to within the complex number division handler, making complex number results more consistent and correct.
  • Changed the chief author's main email address to "gesslein@mathomatic.org". The old linux.com email address didn't seem to work, reliability issues, etc.
  • Combining different denominators that contain the imaginary unit (i) is now prevented. This prevents getting different answers after simplifying a complicated complex number expression.
  • All copyright dates updated to include the new year 2012. Happy New Year everybody! "set html" in the library now allows pretty HTML output with redirected output and with 2D library result string expression output ("set display2d" or display command). Still no color HTML output for the library.
  • Improvement to simplification made, less unnecessary divisions and prettier results of the simplify command. Needs testing.
  • Added color HTML output for redirected output when using the symbolic math library.
  • Increased the size of icons/mathomatic.png to 64x64 and made it look nicer. This is the new, resizeable Mathomatic logo: icons/mathomatic.svg.
  • Published makenews.sh script to make the NEWS file out of the changes.txt file.
  • Added tests/demo and tests/demo_sub, to run specific scripts, and create complete HTML output files from them. These are used to create the examples on the Mathomatic website.

fp Plugin 5.1 - Add BigInteger and BigFloat to REALbasic.. (Free)

fp Plugin 5.1 - Add BigInteger and BigFloat to REALbasic.. (Free): fp Plugin ... Using my own fp multi-precision engine, fp Plugin for Real Studio adds three new data types, BigInteger, BigFloat, and BigComplex.

Except for available memory, there is no limitation on the size of a BigInteger.

BigFloat is a multi-precision floating point number. You can set both the internal precision and the decimal output precision for BigFloat, with no limitation except for available memory. BigComplex is composed of two BigFloats.

fp Plugin itself allows you to construct programs which can handle the three new data types much like doubles and integers are handled. To a large extent the new data types can be freely used with the +, -, *, and / operators, and can be used in comparisons. And most of REALbasic's functions have been overloaded to take the new data types, where it makes sense to do so. Version 2.0 adds Euler's Constant and the Bessel functions for both integer and non-integer orders. Version 2.5 adds the Beta Function, the Incomplete Beta Function, the Error Functions, the Exponential Integral, the Fresnel Integrals, and the Confluent Hypergeometric Function.

I am releasing fp Plugin as freeware with an easy-to-meet license. It is unconditionally available for any use, but is without warranty.

Version 5.1:
  • Corrects a bug in fpLnFactorial which limited precision, and gives a better output precision to fpBigFactorial.

AceReader Pro Deluxe Network 8.0.2 - Speed reading and fluency assessment tool.. (Shareware)

AceReader Pro Deluxe Network 8.0.2 - Speed reading and fluency assessment tool.. (Shareware):

AceReader Pro Deluxe Network is Speed Reading, Reading Fluency, Vision Training, Reading Assessment and Online Reader Software for all ages. AceReader Pro provides you with three tools in one: (1) A training tool that will help you become a more proficient reader both online and offline. (2) An assessment tool to assess and track your reading level. (3) An online reading tool to help you read more efficiently while online. There are three ways to use the program: (1) Course Mode, (2) Menu Mode, and (3) Expert Mode. The Course Mode walks you through a self-adjusting automated course. The Menu Mode gives you more control by allowing you to pick and choose from a menu of training activities. The Expert Mode gives you full control by allowing you to load your own content (i.e. documents, Web pages ...) and letting you set the display mode and speed. The Expert Mode can be used for training purposes and/or as an Online Reader to help you read more efficiently while you are on your computer. The program uses Tachistoscope technology to pace eye movement, which can help you break bad reading habits such as sub-vocalization and regression. Training activities include: Timed Reading Comprehension Tests, Eye Pacing Drills and fun Eye Exercise Games. Includes 13 levels of reading material (grades 1-12 plus adult-level). Drills automatically adjust training speed relative to your personal reading ability. The program logs and graphs results for accountability. The software includes extensive administration and customization options. You can set font, colors, display modes, speeds, delays, bookmarks, column width, hotkeys... Deluxe versions allow you to customize the Tests, Drills and Games. VERSION INFORMATION: Four versions of this product are available: (1) AceReader Pro (single user home edition), (2) AceReader Pro Deluxe (multi-user/family edition), (3) AceReader Pro Deluxe Plus (single station school edition), and (4) AceReader Pro Deluxe Network (network school edition).

Version 8.0.2:
  • A major overhaul of base test set. Stories are longer and we added more questions and choices to the tests. Levels 3 to 13 now have 8 questions per story instead of 4.
  • Existing 490 Drills now allow you to train with clipboard text when you access the drills from the Menu Mode. You were always able to train with your own material using the Expert Mode, but now you have easy access to train with material that you may need to read anyway with the existing drills. When you select a Drill from the Menu Mode, you will now see an option to use text from the clipboard.
  • Going back to the story while taking quizzes is now an option that you can turn on or off. Some people like being able to go back and forth between the story and quiz since it simulates a real world quiz. Other people like to have that option turned off which forces you to remember what you read the first time you read it. To handle both cases, we now added this as an Administration option.
  • We modified the formula for the "Triple Speed" courses and drills (available in Deluxe editions) so that they end by pacing you at 1.5 times your base reading speed instead of 1.2 times your base reading speed.
  • Many other minor enhancements have gone into this release.

Sente 6.5.8 - Academic reference manager and bibliography software.. (Demo)

Sente 6.5.8 - Academic reference manager and bibliography software.. (Demo):

Sente is the premier academic reference manager for Mac OS X. Sente's iTunes-like interface makes finding, reviewing, organizing and using the academic literature in your field easier than ever.

Sente (pronounced sen-tay) makes literature searches easier by providing a front-end to hundreds of data sources around the world, including: PubMed, Web of Science, Ovid, many university library catalogs, various Ovid databases (e.g., Books in Print, CAB Abstracts, Current Contents, PsychINFO -- all by subscription) Agricola, the U.S. Library of Congress, and any other literature database that supports Z39.50 or SRU, and MARC or Dublin Core record syntax.

Sente updates the results of your searches each day so that you can easily stay current with new results. This means that you will learn about important new papers as soon as they appear in any of the databases you search. And the results will remain available until you find the time to review them, even if that happens when you are not connected to the Internet.

Sente provides numerous tools to help you keep your reference library organized, including: unlimited custom data fields, unlimited custom keywords, star ratings, custom statuses, and filters that can use any of these criteria to automatically produce custom subsets of your data.

When it is time to write up your own research, Sente takes care of the details of properly formating citations and bibliographies. Sente includes over 100 pre-defined bibliography styles (e.g., Vancouver, APA, Chicago, Science, etc.) as well as an easy-to-use bibliography format editor that lets you modify the supplied formats or create your own.

A fully-functional, 30-day trial version is available here at MacUpdate for download from www.thirdstreetsoftware.com.

GeoGebra 4.0.21 - Interactive mathematic software (beta).. (Free)

GeoGebra 4.0.21 - Interactive mathematic software (beta).. (Free):

GeoGebra is dynamic mathematics software for all levels of education that joins arithmetic, geometry, algebra and calculus. It offers multiple representations of objects in its graphics, algebra, and spreadsheet views that are all dynamically linked.

While other interactive software (e.g. Cabri Geometry, Geometer's Sketchpad) focus on dynamic manipulations of geometrical objects, the idea behind GeoGebra is to connect geometric, algebraic, and numeric representations in an interactive way. You can do constructions with points, vectors, lines, conic sections as well as functions and change them dynamically afterwards. Furthermore, GeoGebra allows you to directly enter and manipulate equations and coordinates. Thus you can easily plot functions, work with sliders to investigate parameters, find symbolic derivatives, and use powerful commands like Root or Sequence.

Version 4.0.21:

  • added function log(b, x) for base b
  • Worksheet export: Option to embed the ggb file into the HTML (encoded as Base64, uses the 'ggbBase64' parameter)
  • Export as 'Animated GIF' (animation is controlled using a slider as the "clock")
  • Compass Tool allows selecting a circle first then a center point
  • 'Integer' and 'Random' option for sliders
  • File -> Open Webpage allows loading of ggb files from webpages by pasting a URL from a browser (ending .html or .ggb). Also allows loading of files encoded as a Base 64 or GeoGebra XML string.
  • "Show trimmed intersecting lines" option for intersection points
  • Tooltip options (Object Properties -> Advanced) On, Off, Caption, Next Cell, Automatic (old behaviour: only when Algebra View is open)
  • Proper display of formulas and matrices in the spreadsheet
  • When an expression like ab + 1 is entered, if the variable ab is undefined then it is automatically created as ab = a * b if a and b are Numbers, or ab = Distance[a,b] if a and b are Points.
  • FormulaText[ ], FormulaText[ ] now display nicely
  • support for csc(x), sec(x), cot(x), csch(x), sech(x), coth(x) and derivatives
  • Algebra View: you can now shift-click to select multiple objects
  • sqrt(3 + i), cbrt(3 + i), conjugate(3 + i), arg(3 + i)
  • "Import Data" option in the Spreadsheet context menu
  • Windows-style keycodes now work in Text Fields (eg Alt-0176 for °) [not Mac OSX]
  • Support for entering Unicode digits as part of expressions eg Eastern Arabic, Thai

SkySafari Pro is for the obsessed kind of observer that wants it all. It has the largest database of any astronomy app on the iTunes store, and weighs in at nearly a gig. It contains over 15.3 million stars from the Hubble Guide Star catalog, plus 740,000 galaxies down to 18th magnitude, and over 550,000 solar system objects - including every comet and asteroid ever discovered. Yet it runs just as quickly and smoothly as the basic version.

Version 1.1:
  • You can now import and display your own custom horizon panoramas! You can also now turn the horizon glow on or off.
  • Multiple constellation display options can now be turned on at the same time. For example, you can now display traditional constellation lines overlaid with mythical figure images, or modern constellation lines and boundaries at the same time.
  • Rearranged Object Info so it no longer blocks the main sky chart when visible.
  • A new searchable location database now includes every city worldwide with more than 100,000 people - 4092 cities in all (vs. less than 1500 previously).
  • You can now search for all objects in a star or deep sky catalog by typing just the catalog name or its standard abbreviation. For example, you can find all the Caldwell objects by searching for just "Caldwell" (or "C") without a specific object number.
  • Constellations are now searchable by common name (like "Southern Cross"). Searches for variable stars are now no longer case-sensitive.
  • Fixed problem with displaying and setting times in the hours past 12 AM and 12 PM. Fixed positions and magnitudes of certain nebulae. Corrected inability to select small nebula symbols by tapping on them. Secondary components of double stars are no longer labelled until you're zoomed in enough to see them.

Gene Construction Kit 3.5.3 - Manipulate DNA sequences and plasmid drawing options.. (Demo)

Gene Construction Kit 3.5.3 - Manipulate DNA sequences and plasmid drawing options.. (Demo):

The Gene Construction Kit program has been the preferred plasmid mapping software of leading researchers for more than 20 years. GCK allows easy manipulation of DNA sequences, either graphically or as sequence text - quickly saving users both time and money. GCK eliminates tedious examination of DNA sequence data by automatically identifying open reading frames (ORF's), keeping track of sticky ends during cutting and pasting of restriction enzyme digestion fragments, assisting with PCR primer design, and enabling comprehensive annotation of DNA sequence features. This DNA analysis software allows multiple files to be opened and displayed simultaneously, allowing DNA sequences to easily be copied and pasted between plasmids and vectors to represent real-world DNA cloning protocols. The Gene Construction Kit software is available for both Windows and Macintosh users, and files can be shared across platforms allowing for easy collaboration. The interface and set of functions in GCK will significantly enhance laboratory productivity and minimize experimental design errors - saving users both time and money.

The demo version available from the above link has limited functions (printing, saving, and importing/exporting files are not enabled). A full trial version is available upon application to the developer. The same contact form may be used to request pricing details (academic, government & commercial).

Now there’s a new, smart way to do it. Unquote gives you your word count, minus the quotations. It works with all word processors, including ‘Pages’ and ‘Word’. And it even tells you how many quotes there are, and shows you the word count for each individual one.

With Unquote, you no longer have to count up quotes yourself - just focus on the perfect essay. It’s the indispensable essay writing tool for academics and students alike.
